This was our first cruise with Cunard having previously always been with P&O and we were very impressed. Embarkation was swift and by the time we arrived at our cabin our cases were waiting there for us. We had booked an outside cabin in midships and this proved to be a good choice. The cabin was quite roomy with a good sized seating area with a sofa. The bed was very comfortable and the cabin was kept beautifully clean and tidy by Christina.
Queen Elizabeth is a very comfortable ship with beautiful and impressive public areas. The feature wall of the atrium consists of a wonderful art deco style marquetry piece by Viscount Lindley. There is definitely an up-market feel to this ship and she is kept looking her best at all times. One thing that surprised us was that the ship never seemed crowded - there was always a place to sit, despite having more passengers than any other ship we have sailed on.
We were very impressed by the dining arrangements onboard Queen Elizabeth. We ate in the Deck 3 level of the Britannia Restaurant. We had requested a table for two and were pleasantly surprised to find when we got on board that this was what we had been allocated. What really impressed us though was the ability to get a table for two at both breakfast and lunch, something we have never been able to do on P&O. The food was very good indeed and throughout the whole twelve days of the cruise the standard was very high. Unfortunately, the wine prices fell into the same catagory. Many of the wines on the wine list also appear on P&O, but Cunard inflate the price (and then add a 15% service charge) - ouch! We ate in the Verrandah restaurant on the final night of the cruise, and although the food was good, it was not to my mind as good as the Marco Pierre White Ocean Grill on P&O. Service in the Verrandah was excellent, as it was in the Britannia restaurant. We had lunch one day in the Golden Lion pub. It was OK, but we decided it was much better in the Britannia restaurant. We used the Lido buffet on a couple of occasions, and although it was definitely an improvement on any of the buffets on P&O ships, we still preferred to east in the Britannia restaurant.
Comfortable cabin. Roomy. Quiet.
