While we've cruised on other lines, we decided it was time to try Royal Caribbean. And what better test than one of the older and least featured ships in the line, the Grandeur — one due for a refit in 2017. If we enjoyed ourselves on this ship, we assume the bigger, glitzier RCI ships would be even better.
Spoiler alert: it was awesome.
While the ship shows its age, it was spotless and everything worked. Everything. Unlike last year when we were on the Golden Princess, where half the elevators didn't work, the pools and Jacuzzis were constantly broken and closed, everything was kept in top operating condition on Grandeur.
It was compact — no shock. But perfectly laid out. The bathroom is a bit tight and may be a challenge for those with mobility issues, but most folks will have no issues. Beds were on the firm side but nice. For the price, it was an excellent value.
