Joined some friends on this cruise from Hong Kong to Beijing, to celebrate a friend's 60 Birthday. We had 6 people in our group and met 2 other lovely people who joined us for dinner every night. The ship had mostly Chinese guests and about 400 westerners. Staff were very helpful, and we enjoyed dinner each night, our waiters were fantastic, food was great and it was lovely to catch up with everyone, before determining what to do at night.

The ports of call were very interesting, whilst I have travelled a fair bit, I hadn't visited these ports. We walked around and discovered Okinawa, and Sasebo in Japan. Both cities were very interesting, easy to get around and discover on your own. Next was Jeju in South Korea, also very easy to get around. We bought hop on off bus tickets ashore and saw many interesting place. I think the ship could have provided shore maps on what to see and do, but this did not occur, luckily, in most places there was a tourist area when you arrived.

The staff on ship were very good, and the entertainment was great. However, you really needed to have early sitting if you wanted to see a show. The piano bar was excellent, and we spent many a night there listening to the music.

Hong Kong

We only had a couple of days in Hong Kong, and as I hadn't been there for a long time, we arranged a 1/2 day tour for the first day, this was great, then went to the Ladies Market at night time - a must but remember to barter. Next day, we caught the subway to the harbour and took the ferry across, we then took the bus to Stanley Market, very easy to travel, we bought an Octopus Card, and found it very easy to use public transport. Stanley Markets was a great place to shop, not as many people and quality of goods very high, Also on the water, so it was a great place for lunch. Afterwards,we went back by bus, then took the tram up to the peak. There was a long wait. We looked at the shops and had dinner up at the peak watching Hong Kong come alive at night. Again a long wait to come down by tram, then ferry and train home. Next day a quick taxi ride to the port - cheaper than the cost of transfers.
