This was our second Viking River cruise. After the first one I swore I'd never do another. Then Viking made us an offer we couldn't refuse and we just returned from a 14 day Grand European Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. Now for sure we won't do another, mostly because we just aren't river cruise kind of people and found ourselves kind of bored several times during our 2 week adventure. Ocean cruising is much more our style.

The Highs: Our program director, Daniela Ebert, was outstanding. This was her first cruise on this particular itinerary and everything went so smoothly you'd think she'd done this for years. If you ever have the chance to tour with Dani, you'll be in for a real treat.

Like our previous Viking cruise, the service was excellent. The crew is very attentive and friendly, and they will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy. The food was close to the best cruise food we've ever had, and the menu often included local specialties. The complimentary wine with meals was fairly good too.

Port Reviews

Passau

Relatives from the Czech Republic drove to Passau to meet us for lunch - best day of the cruise!

Regensburg

Town was pretty much closed because it was Sunday.

Nuremberg

I did the bus tour to central Nuremburg - it was just so so. Husband did the museum tour and thought it was good.

Cologne

Interesting town and church.
