Carnivals new staggered boarding was a breeze. Our check in time was 12:30, we arrived at 12:05 and were allowed in. There was hardly no line and what line there was getting trough security moved very quickly. We were on the Conquest in January, this being its sister ship we were familiar with the layout. Seemed the décor of this ship was nicer than on the Conquest.
Cabin was balcony 7360, was the same size as the ocean view we had in January. Room had plenty of storage and was of good size with a full size couch. Will have to say our cabin steward left a lot to be desired. Our toilet smelled so bad I don't think he ever used any cleaning product. I've been in port-a-potty's that smelled better. The only way we found him was by accident going down the hall for dinner at 7:50. First cruise I've been on where the cabin steward hasn't stopped by during the afternoon to introduce themselves.
Safety drill is ridiculous. I don't know why Carnival is one of the only cruise lines I've been where you have to stand outside in the heat and humidity for safety drill. Galveston in June and July is hot and humid. We have 3500 people standing out on deck four with no airflow. It was bad enough in January in Ft. Lauderdale having people falling out.
Nice spacious, plenty of storage. Only issue was toilet not clean.
Easy to get to port. Stay on I-45 first Galveston exit after the bridge. Plenty of parking. Staggered embarkation made boarding process quick and easy.
Large public beach at end of pier with lots of bars providing seating and umbrellas, problem is people constantly trying to sell you something every two minutes. Once you get in Progreso, transportation back to the ship doesn't run every 20 minutes like they say. The $5.00 city tour is not bad get an overview of the city, doesn't take a long time or cost a lot of money. Once done with that nothing else to see or do in town.
