First time cruise‐Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas, Western Caribbean route, June 2016

Passing on some thoughts and observations after 3 families (9 people total ages 3 to 75 years) took their first cruise (7 nights, Royal Caribbean International (RCI) Liberty of the Seas, Western Caribbean route, June 2016).

Preparation: Had several contacts with RCI over the phone. Short wait times encountered with professional, courteous people. They fixed multiple issues our travel agent made with our bookings.

Port Reviews

Galveston

Port of Galveston: Poor facilities; barely acceptable air conditioning; 1 road in and out that passes through 2 different ships coming and goings at the same time; long lines for baggage pickup, customs, and major traffic jams; I saw 1 soda vending machine, no food, and I would not have gotten out of line if I did because that would put me back at the end of the very long lines; signs were posted about remodeling of the port‐not much of that was evident. This place was such a mess that I would ask the cruise lines to avoid this port until its multiple problems are sorted out.
