After a long flight from the UK we arrived at LAX. Caught the shuttle to the Radisson where we stayed overnight before getting a cab to San Pablo Port. Our luggage was whisked away to be left outside our cabin (which it was). The embarkation was well organized and went very smoothly, before we knew it we were welcomed aboard with champagne and juice. The staff and crew are exceptional, they look so smart and clean in their uniforms, they are pleasant and polite nothing was to much trouble. The hygiene on the ship is excellent, you are encouraged to use the antiseptic jell at all times. It was still awhile until the cabins were ready so we decided on a early lunch at the Versailles (which soon became our favorite). Just as we finished our meal the announcement was made that the cabins were ready. We found our cabins just a staircase away from the restaurant on deck 8 AFT.As it happened excellently situated. The cabin (ocean view)was quite adequate with enough cupboard space for two but I think it would be a bit of a squeeze for three. I asked the steward to please remove the contents of the mini bar(as advised on many reviews) he said just to leave to one side, this proved to be a problem when getting our account at the end of the cruise, anyway this was soon solved by the chief housekeeper. So insist that everything chargeable is removed from the cabin if you don't want a hefty bill. We had no need to use used the chargeable restaurants. The Market Garden, Pool side grill, Blue Lagoon (open 24 hours) and Versailles, (this was quite popular so we eat at 8pm) they all had an excellent variety. We had breakfast room service a couple of mornings which was very good and they call before they deliver. The ship is lovely, ok a little ware and tear but to be expected. It is kept spotlessly clean. The pool is not large but large enough for a quick dip. There are a few hot tubs around. There are some lovely view to be had from the Spinnaker Lounge, but all the drinks are chargeable. On certain nights they hold karaoke there. We saw a couple of shows at the Stardust Theatre, this get full quite quickly so get there early. The cinema shows modern films so great to catch up on any you have missed and seldom full. We enjoyed the casino but with the terrible exchange dollar/GB pound rate found it to expensive to take part. A small irritation was the continuing sales pressure to buy Diamonds and Gems. We were invited before docking in Mazatlan to a talk about things to do and to be weary of etc. We decided after a good half hour on the property of diamonds to leave. When getting a taxi into town you will be left right outside a jewelry store (so you may want diamonds!)The night before disembarkation our luggage was collected and left at the port. We were a little concerned as we had a flight to make LAX. No worries, the disembarkation went as smoothly and effortlessly as boarding. The organization on the Star by NCL was outstanding. This was our first cruise and can't imagine how it could be bettered. NCL you are truly a STAR.
