Budapest, one of the many bridges
In Budapest, can't remember what that building is but it was beautiful

We enjoyed the "Romantic Danube" cruise very much and would recommend Viking to anyone as a GREAT choice. Booked everything with Viking, no issues. Started in Budapest on the ship Njord. Simply, the ship and crew were perfect, met and went above the standards. Yes at times you could smell sewage, big deal. Where do you think it goes after you flush? Duh, the tank vents sometimes, Not an issue for us. Included tours were great, no issues. Only rained part of one day, all other days were sunny and a few very warm. BUT a lot of rain in the weeks prior made the river high and the ship could not pass under bridges in a certain section of the river, so on the third or forth day we had to be bused to another ship, the Freya down stream. Something was off with that ship and crew. You could tell right from the start. Staff and the ship did not hit the mark like the Njord. We did not have an issue with the ship change, 100 percent agree that Viking made the right call and they can't control rain. But wish we could have stayed on the Njord, great staff. If you have trouble walking, use a scooter to get around or are grossly over weight stay home. If it gets hot and you can not deal with a few minutes on a hot bus, stay home. Duh, summer should be hot, to see a location you need to walk. My only issues were with the older passengers or with the wealthy individuals that thought they were the only ones that mattered. At 50 years of age, in good shape and good attitudes, and not wealthy, we were the minority's. 80 percent of passengers were close to or over 70. However we found people that we had a great time with (2, half our age) and all was great. Oh, we went with the smallest cabin, well worth it and saved a lot of money. Do not dress or act like a dumb American, research before the trip goes a long way. Dress up a little for the Captains dinner on the last night, again don't be a dumb American. No one pressures you to tip, but you are given the option to tip at the end. Funny how the people with money were the ones not wanting to tip. If you really like someone, give them money directly. Closing I would say we could not afford this trip but worked and saved to do it. Well worth it! We would have given 5 rating if not having to deal with the ship Freya. The Njord was perfect! Use Viking for your next trip. FYI There are fitness items on the ship, but you can walk the sun anytime
