Having been on Azura for our first cruise (bustle and the queues, lack of seats etc), we wanted to try a smaller ship and the Iberian destinations were the main interest. We were very pleasantly surprised with Oriana, having read the negative views of some over her age, rusting, tired furnishing etc - we found the inside decor was fine, spacious communal areas, service team constantly touching up outside rusted deck areas, and best of all we always managed to find a seat in any bar, the buffet and theatre, and didn't really have to queue anywhere. Prom deck is a great facility, plus the open decks on each aft deck - great spaces for sitting out and always chairs or sun beds available. Cabin was compact, clean and kept beautifully by steward Clevy - only downside is wardrobes with doors which limits hanging space and obstructs access in room when opening them. Much prefer open wardrobes in newer ships. The safe was low on the floor at the back of the wardrobe too, so a hands and knees job to reach it - not ideal for people with mobility issues or dodgy knees. Hairdryer was quite dated. We met some lovely people in shared dining and the ship is small enough to meet familiar faces again during the week. Ports of calls in Guernsey, La Rochelle, Bilabo and La Coruna were all different and interesting. We did the excursion to Santiago de Compostela and enjoyed the old town, despite rain. Entertainment was superb all week - much better standard of entertainer than expected for a smaller, adult only ship. Embarkation and disembarkation both a breeze. Loved the ship and would sail on her again happily.

Port Reviews

Southampton

Killing time walking round the town and not needing any shopping, it was nothing exciting really. Pig In the Wall deli pub is great though for tasty healthy lunch!

Bilbao

Easy enough to do on foot. We did the Guggunheim from outside then walked along the river to the old town.

St. Peter Port (Guernsey)

Recommend taking the local bus service that goes 25 miles round the island for £1! Super sightseeing. Plus walk out to Castle Cornet for views and museums.

La Coruna

Good excursion to Santiago do Compostela - beautiful medieval town.
