My wife and I just returned from our 06/12/16 – 06/19/16, 7-night cruise to Bermuda aboard the Celebrity Summit celebrating our 26th anniversary. We were accompanied by my wife’s sister and her friend. We are all in our 50’s and 60’s.

Embarkation from the Cape Liberty Cruise Port was a breeze. We drove up from Maryland, arriving at the pier at about 10:20AM. We dropped our checked bags off and parked in the garage. We went through a very painless security screening to the check-in desks, and were on the ship just after 11 AM. Be prepared to have a lot of crew offering drink packages, specialty dining, internet and spa offerings as you board. It’s a bit annoying, but a simple “no thanks” takes care of things. We were up on Deck 10 at the burger grill having lunch by 11:30AM, sipping a cocktail, with the Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty off the port side.

The ship itself is in great shape. Updates from the recent dry dock were visible. We went up to the new Rooftop Terrace while at sea to listen to the duet band. A very nice space. There are three stairways up to this level (which is technically Deck 12) – 2 from Deck 11 on both port and starboard sides (they’ve installed at least one chair lift on the starboard side), and a two-deck stairway connecting the Terrance to the Sunset Bar on the Deck 10 fantail. Other upgraded public areas we noticed included the Tuscan Grille on Deck 3 and the Solarium on Deck 10. However, constant maintenance and improvements were on-going while we were on board…they take full advantage of being docked for three days in Bermuda. For example, during one day in Bermuda we saw a crew sand, strip and re-varnish the wood railing surrounding the pool bar. We also saw this happening with sections of the Deck 4 promenade railing.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Balcony 2B

Cabin 2B

The cabin was in good condition, although as others have mentioned some updating will be needed in the near future. There was nothing that was in poor repair…just showing its age. Bathroom was small, but with a relatively roomy shower. There is plenty of storage space and the standard balcony is a good size. I think we had the best view while docked in Bermuda by being on the starboard side – we had the whole of the Great Sound and the rest of the island in the distance. However, I've been told the ships can dock in the opposite direction, which would give the port side the view. I guess we got lucky. The bed was comfortable, and we brought along a travel-sized surge protector to expand the two 110-volt outlets provided. My wife thought the hair dryer took much longer to dry than the one she has at home, but it did the job eventually. Ladies, please note this stateroom did NOT include a makeup mirror. Pack accordingly. Ice stocked regularly by our stateroom attendants.
