We sailed on the Crown Princess, Inside Passage to Alaska, May 6-13th. We couldn't have asked for better weather--not one day of rain and the scenery was beautiful. We loved the balcony stateroom and are glad our TA encouraged us to go that route! However, we had a really rocky start in Canada Place which just spiraled down, influencing our itinerary and making the trip somewhat disappointing.

To start off, in Canada Place there were only 10 US custom officials to process the 7,000+ people wanting to board the three large cruise ships in port (Crown Princess, Celebrity Solstice and Norwegian Jewel). As a result we had to wait over 4 hours in a holding room (with thousands of others) before we could even go through security and customs. We arrived at 2:00 in the afternoon and didn't board until shortly before 7:00. This delay caused the ship to sail out 3 1/2 hours late. Our 4:30 departure turned into an 8:00 one! Never had we experienced such a lengthy embarkation procedure before. It took so long for us to get through US customs and security that by the time we arrived at our stateroom our luggage was already there waiting for us!

Because the ship sailed out so late, we missed the tide conditions that would take us through Seymour Narrows and the Inside Passage. The captain had to reroute the ship taking us out to sea. Now we had to forfeit seeing the beautiful scenery of the Inside Passage with its calm water to just seeing empty sea and also having to endure with rough sea conditions. With the ship rolling back and forth and bouncing up and down, many became queasy--myself being one of them! Even the crew were feeling it!

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BB

Portside cabin, midship was small but adequate. Good and quiet location on the ship. Sliding door onto balcony with two chairs and small table was an added bonus for cruising Alaska. Bathroom shower very small with no space to put your shampoo bottles or soap. Separate closet/storage area separated from the main cabin which kept luggage out of the way. Cabin equipped with one TV, small bar fridge, desk, safe and hairdryer. Comfortable bed.
