We finally got around to booking a 7 day RC cruise! This was the biggest ship of any we have ever cruised on. We normally cruise on a ship the size of Carnival's Fantasy class or Royal's Enchantment of the Seas.

Although we knew there were a number of amenities and activities we might not care to use, we figured we'd see and do more things than usual. We did a fair amount of new things, we had a neato Cruise Critic meet and mingle too.

We haven't been to the Eastern Caribbean in about 8 years, so we were looking forward to a return to St. Thomas and St Marten as well. We also had a stop in Coco Cay.

Cabin Review

Family Panoramic Oceanview Stateroom

Cabin PF

Fantastic cabin! We booked an accessible cabin, My wife has some mobility issues and we booked this and rented a scooter for the week. Royal was helpful with recommending two companies that offered rentals. Our cabin was roomy enough to bring the scooter inside, and large enough for a turnaround in the room. The floor to ceiling windows more than make up for not having a balcony. The bedding was great, bathroom larger than the usual. With a cabin like this, sometimes closet and shelfspace is a bit more limited but we managed fine.

Port Reviews

St. Thomas

One of the most beautiful places to visit. We did the skyride to paridise point. Ate lunch and had a few drinks with some other passengers while we were there. My wife also bought a few souveniers. One thing, if you are mobility impaired, this ride may not be for you! There is a large number of steps to negotiate to get up to the skylift platform! Once up top of the hill, there is a large number of steps to get down to the second level of the shops and restaurant there too. They do have a long long set of switchback ramps but, a lot of walking for sure, and no ability to take up a scooter or wheel chair.

However, you can take a cab ride up the hill for about 4 bucks each! IF we'd known that, we could have trekked up there CHEAPER than the skyride. BUT, the skyride is pretty neato! My wife had some shots in her ankle and though she was not happy about it, she made the climb. Once atop, I kept her plyed with Bushwhackers and we had some GREAT FISH TACOS! I believe the best I have ever eaten. We did do the climb back up to ride down. Once back down on level ground we grabbed a taxi back to the ship!

St. Maarten

We have been to ST M a few times, this time since we were a bit tired from the earlier days of the cruise we just did the touristy thing. We hit the gift shops, got some cigars and had a few brews right at the port.

The good thing was, for mobility peeps, if you can walk a bit and climb up a big step they will bring small busses right to the side of the ship, so with no more effort than the old Disney tram ride you can get a ride into the gift shop area or to a TAXI stand., From there you can easily tour the island or hop into town.

The last time we were here in ST Marten, the water taxi had three stops, and was easily hopped on to right at the pier. NOW the watertaxi is quite a walk from the ship and only has one stop in town and the main square. We were gonna water taxi it, but as I studied it, I decided that I didn't even wanna walk that far to get it!
