This was the third trip out for the vista and our first on Carnival. The ship had a lovely new car smell still and we enjoyed our time onboard.
The lay out of the ship was fine but didn't seem to have a heart, the Atrium had a nice bar but was basically a place to pass through, guest services was tucked away on level 3 with the shore excursions. The floors were really uneven with random dips and rises not to mention the thresholds across corridors. The seating areas around the promenade deck were great with chairs and loungers. Outstanding was the serenity area with its comfy huge loungers. We spent most of a day here on a port day (having already been to Palma on other trips).
Our Cabin was 1314 and was outstanding it was ocean view with lots of room and TWO bathrooms; one with a bath and shower over plus sink the other with a walk in shower, sink and toilet. There was a fridge (not mini bar) and apparently should have had bathrobes but they only arrived on the last night of the cruise.
If you are leaving from Barcelona book a late flight, use bags and go to send your luggage to the airport and then have a day in Barcelona. The cost of 3 bags (pre booked) and two Areobus tickets cost us the same as a taxi to the airport from the port.
May be it is just us but I find this a difficult city to get round, the naughty fountain is worth visiting and the cathedral.
Catch the metro to the Museum, two stops, (not open Tuesday) to see amazing finds from Pompeii and the secret room of adult art from Roman times, then walk down the hill and turn left into Via Benedetto Croce.
Having been to rome for several weekends we didn't feel a day trip was worth it (for the cost of a excursion for two I could book flights and a hotel). Civitaveccia is a small town with a nice market, go to the supermarket buy some wine or beer and watch the waves roll in.
we took the bus to the railway station (12 Euros) and the train to Florence, an amazing place to wonder round and soak up the history,
Take the local bus to town from the port gate and explore
