We just got back from our Carnival Splendor cruise and it was great. It was our first time sailing on Carnvial and we were very pleased our experience. We are family of six - me, my husband and our four daugthers ages 17, 16, 11 and 9. We sailed from Miami to Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We flew in the same day that we sailed out. We got to Miami around 10:30am. From the airport, it was very easy to find a cab for 6 people. The port was not that far from the airport. The cab fare was $27 flat rate for all of us which was good. Once we got to the port, we were helped by one of the porters. I printed luggage tags but didn't print enough for all 7 of our luggages so he marked our bags and told us that he would take care of it. That went pretty smoothly. We then got in line to get into the carnival embarkation area. We had to go through US security first and show our passports. Once in the building, we had to go through another line to actually get our set sail cards to be printed and to be boarded on the ship. After our cards were printed, we had to wait for our zone to be called in order to get on the boat. I think we finally got on the boat around 1pm. We were all pretty hungry so we went to the buffet to have lunch. Our rooms weren't going to be ready until 1:30 so we were happy to go straight to the buffet.

The buffet food wasn't bad overall. The food was tasty considering they were cooking so much food for so many people. I had some Italian food and Indian food on the first day. I had dessert after that. Overall the Lido deck food was not bad. There were so many choices to pick from and we literally ate too much on this trip. The line was always long for the Mongolian wok. It was also long for the grill. But I was able to try almost all of the different stations and I think that most of the food was good. I love ice cream so I was glad that they had soft serve ice cream available 24 hours a day. There were also plenty of desserts to choose from. There was just an abundance of food! One of the days they had a chocolate extravaganza at the buffet area and you can eat anything with chocolate that you wanted. It was chocolate lovers paradise!

The dining room food was good as well. We ate breakfast almost all of the days in the dining room except for one day and we ate dinner there every night. There were so many options to choose from for appetizer, main course and dessert. You can even order multiple things if you want! Some nights they even brought us an extra main course so that we could try things. They even do a themed menu depending on what port your on. The sea day brunch menu wasn't bad. I think it was better than eating breakfast at the Lido deck. Eating breakfast at the Lido deck was crowded. We only did that one day and we decided that it was better to eat at the main dining room for breakfast. The one thing that we didn't like on the Lido deck breakfast area was the runny eggs. That was pretty gross. That's what made us decide to eat at the main dining room for breakfast all the other days. Breakfast wasn't bad at the main dining room. You have standard choices from pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelette and eggs Benedict. My girls and I loved the hot chocolate! We ordered it every morning!

Cabin 4D

We had two interior cabins - one for me and my husband and another one for all four of our girls. The rooms were standard. We were really only in our rooms to sleep because we were usually out enjoying the ship. Our stateroom steward Joemar was great! He was very polite and very nice. He made sure we had clean towels everyday and the room was just very well maintained. He also made us cute towel animals every night. We were on deck 2 and it was quiet on that deck. We were pleased with our room.
