Cabin: Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Many of our cruises have beenon Holland America (almost 4 stars) and we had heard good things about the Prinsendam, the smallest ship in the Holland America fleet. There was a pair of cruises that we combined. One crossed the Atlantic, leaving from Fort Lauderdale and covered a few ports along the way to Amsterdam and the other visited northern European ports. The highlight for us was to be St Petersburg. The cruise returned to Amsterdam from where we flew home.

The Prinsendam is a popular ship and we settled on a cabin on the lowest passenger deck, Deck 5; cabin 489.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean-View Stateroom

Cabin F

This ocean-view cabin is in the aft of the ship and has a walk-in shower but no bath. As with all cabins on this ship, there is a fridge and because of the layout, a walk-in closet. There was new carpeting but a large glass cover over the window that eliminates the windowsill. We liked that the bed (very comfortable) is by the side wall rather than against the window. Storage was adequate for our needs. There is some engine noise possibly due to 'cavitating' which seems to occur when the ship is entering or leaving port and occasionally when changing speed or turning. On occasions, the empty wire fruit basket danced across our glass table. It bothered us the first couple of nights but then we got used to it. Our next door neighbours requested and received a move to a quieter cabin after the first cruise.
