Cabin: Family Ocean View Stateroom

A Transatlantic crossing has always been high on my bucket list.

The Brilliance of the Seas is a sweet ship. Something about her size, design... a very friendly and relaxed ship. Probably one of my favorites.

We had a total of three cabins booked, two Family Oceanview Staterooms and one Balcony Stateroom. The embarkation process in Tampa was quick and seamless. Less than 30 minutes from dropping our bags to crossing the gangplank. Our first stop after boarding was the Windjammer. It was impossible to find a table. Passengers were "hanging out" (not eating) with their bags waiting for the staterooms to open. Dino, one of the managers, seeing us searching for a seat, promptly ushered us to the dining room for Gold Card Holders.

Family Ocean View Stateroom

Upon entering and settling into our stateroom, we noticed that it had not been "cleaned". Yes the bed was made, the bathroom was stocked with towels... however there was food all over the floor. Oatmeal, bacon, potato chips, etc. There was also a substance that appeared to be bodily fluids on the nightstand. We also discovered that the bathroom was not stocked with paper products and the shampoo/body was dispenser was missing from the wall. I will not bore with the details. It did take a considerable amount of time (almost 7 days) for the hotel staff to take ownership and rectify the situation that could have been resolved immediately. Turns out no Stateroom Attendant had been assigned to our stateroom and they “drafted” a general janitorial staff member to assist in flipping staterooms. They did eventually assign a Stateroom Attendant with decades of experience and he (Bobby) was truly fantastic. The room itself was spacious. Really no complaints...except for the smell of cigarette smoke. Seems it was working its way up the crew/emergency stairwell from the deck 5 crew area.
