We had originally booked the NCL Dawn out of Boston but were cancelled due to their extended dry docking. We had gone on the NCL Getaway, last year and were not impressed. So we chose the smaller, Dawn, instead. The Breakaway class ships are too big, service was sparse and the Bartenders/Waiters never seemed to want to get to know you. Most of them made little or no effort to remember you or find out what you are like. I can't say I really blame them, we hardly saw people twice, ourselves! I believe the main focus, now, has been turned towards the Haven and those guests! Usually we come home with lists of names of those that we don't want to forget and hope to meet again on another cruise, maybe on a different ship! This time, I got 3 names, and 1 of those is for horrible experience. The later was Victor, from the Uptown Burger Bar. He was rude, condescending and mean, to other guests as well. I reported him to one of the officers on board but doubt they did anything about it. The other two names, for good reasons, were Norman, from the Spice H20 area and Elliott from Maltings. Both of these guys were so good at their jobs and made us feel welcome! We enjoy having a cocktail before dinner or sometimes afterwards when my Husband stopped for a cigar in the Humidor Room. They stood out as fun and enjoyable! The food was just ok unless you ate in the specialty restaurants which you pay extra for. I bought 3 night UDP and it was worth it but the rest of the regular dining and especially the buffets were terrible. So when booking your trip, add in the extras to pay for good food. Food, drink packages, shows...All those extras add up to a lot of money!

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Large Balcony

Cabin M6

We paid an extra $1,000 for more space than a standard balcony cabin. It was longer but not any wider at all! We were very disappointed. My Husband and I had a difficult time maneuvering around cabin while trying to get ready to go somewhere. We couldn't both access closet or mirror to dress. The balcony was very deep but didn't offer an easy view because the privacy sides are metal and blocked it. Having it large enough to lounge was a waste because there was only an hour or so a day that the sun actually hit you with the privacy blocking walls. The cabin was kept neat and we had everything we needed from the service people.

Port Reviews

King's Wharf

We did our own thing, took water-ferries, buses and explored from one end of the Island to the other! You don't need to book anything if you do your research. 3 day passes for Ferry/Bus or take taxis to Beaches, restaurants, shopping! It's all beautiful.

New York (Manhattan)

NYC is not where I'd like to see anything.
