Sail Date: May 2016

We chose this cruise for price and supposed value. This was my fifth cruise so I have something to compare it to. The ship itself was ok, and the balcony view was worth it. The crew was mostly curt. The Drink deal they try to sell you for unlimited drinks $49.50 per day was not worth it. Each passenger had to buy this if they wanted the alleged deal, although we were told differently when a waiter tried to sell it to us. When you ordered a drink, you must specify top shelf brand or else you received just well brand liquor. We spent $700 just for the drinks based on $49.50 per day, and the deal had to be purchased within 2 days of sailing. Not worth it. That was about 1/2 the cost of 1 passenger fare.

The food in Horizon court (buffet) was poor. How do you screw up eggs in both restaurants? Rarely did we find something we liked. The food in Michaelangelo was a little better. They also had other culinary options if you were willing to pay a premium price, ie $39 for seafood. The food was better off the ship at ports of call. Of course all cruises try to sell you their jewelry and souvenirs, but to make that a large part of their itinerary was disappointing. You can usually find better prices on shore excursions directly with the vendor, and they work with the ship lines to ensure you don't miss the ship.

Ketchikan: Alaska Sea Cycles was awesome. We made friends with a seal. Juneau: Dog Sledding on Mendenhall Glacier was incredible. Skagway: White Pass train views were breathtaking. See Alaska. See Seattle too. It was worth it. Do your research when choosing a cruise line.
