My husband and I looked forward to this third Alaskan cruise and the First time on Royal Caribbean. We heard great things about Royal Caribbean, but we were SO disappointed in the Explorer of the Seas! We have cruised many times mostly on Carnival and thought we wanted a change until we tried this ship.
From the embarking lines that lasted 2-1/2 to 3 hours long, then when we went to do the initial check in some of the things that we purchased online; i.e. Beverage package did not show up on the account and another long line on the ship customer service desk to fix the problems. The food was not even par. The activities were minimal. The speciality restaurants were running out of veg sides even before the end of the cruise. The main dining room food was terrible. The meat was a poor quality and beef very tough.
All of the staff and crew were exceptional which helped a lot on this disappointing cruise. The RC excuse was this was the first cruise for this ship in Alaska which was why it was so disorganized, but this was not the first cruise of this ship in other places. I hope IF we try Royal Caribbean again it is not as disappointing as the Explorer of the Seas 7 night Alaskan cruise on May 20, 2016. The cruise was not worth the amount of money we paid to take it!
Our cabin steward was Clayton. He always kept our cabin clean and always kept our ice bucket full. He was very exceptional. We enjoyed our cabin, but the balcony was very small. Barely large enough for two people to sit on. The bed was comfortable. Really liked the door on the shower instead of curtain.
