We chose this cruise because it started and ended in Rome, visited ports that we wanted to see on our first Mediterranean cruise, and had good dates and a good price. NCL is not our top choice as a cruise line since we are not much into the drinking, gambling, and partying aspects, but it delivers good value for the money. Overall we were very happy with almost all aspects, and would do it again.

A highlight was the food which was excellent in all the locations that we tried: Manhattan main dining room, Le Bistro, Buffet, Cirque dinner theater, and La Cucina Italian restaurant. The buffet had great variety and was never too crowded - although it was quite busy at prime times. There was no problem walking into the Manhattan room at almost any time with no reservation.

The ship is like-new in appearance and the crew were friendly and helpful. Overall, the entertainment was OK - that is very much a matter of personal taste. The "Burn the Floor" dance show contains tremendous energy and very good talent. We were disappointed that Blue Man Group is gone. We made reservations for the shows but in most cases the standby people got in OK.

Cabin BD

The review of the cabins on Epic have been mixed at best, but we were completely satisfied. The bathroom arrangement is unusual but with the privacy current it worked fine, and provided excellent flexibility for two people to be using different facilities (shower/sink/toilet) at the same time. The balcony was quite large. The bed was extremely comfortable. There were many convenient storage locations and enough hanging space in the closets. The cabin was clean and essentially new in appearance. it is not very large, but the couch adds a lot of comfort. The television channels are very limited.

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

Assuming that you don't try to walk from the train station to the ship, Civitavecchia is an excellent port. Connections to the center of Rome are easy and fast by train, and private car service to the airport is fast (one hour) but not cheap (130 Euro). The cruise line's shuttle may not be cheaper for two people and requires more time before the flight than a private car. For the latter we recommend RomeCabs.
