This was our fourth cruise with NCL and our first on The Getaway, and will be our last. The ship was too big and too crowded for our liking, with too many children running around unsupervised.

Embarkation in Miami was a breeze and only took about 20 minutes; we got there early before the maddening crowds. The disembarkation process was a little bit slower, due to the fact that two converging lines in the casino slowed things down, and staff seemed a bit unorganized.

Since there was a large group of us travelling, we all loaded the iConcierge app and paid the $9.99 fee to activate it when on board. While it was handy to have information at one’s fingertips, it was frustrating texting people because the texts weren’t immediately received or weren’t received at all. Calling people on cell phones didn’t quite work either; NCL needs to tweak this app to make it more user friendly.

Cabin Review

Aft-Facing Balcony Stateroom

Cabin B1

In its quest to get more passengers on board and add more venues, the size of things has shrunk. Cabin, closet and shelving space appear to have decreased in size. There was a draw under the sofa, however, it was filled with spare linens for the bed. There wasn't too much room between the end of the sofa and the closet. There was a small Ottoman that doubled as a table and a storage area, which was quite handy. There were some smaller shelves near the fridge so they were used for clothing. We had an Aft cabin so our balcony was quite big with two loungers, two chairs and a table; there was room to move around and the view from the back of the ship was great. Cabins on the side decks have much smaller balconies with hardly any space. Being at the back of the ship, we were subjected to singing and the sound of the bass pounding out some nights when H20/Spice was in full swing.

Port Reviews

Miami

Flew to Miami to board the ship; spent a day there on the return trip but didn't do too much.

Roatan

Very friendly people and souvenir prices were reasonable. For someone who wants to zip-line for the first time, this is the place to do it. Close to the ship and over the water.

Belize City

Tendered off of the ship for this visit; prices for items seemed rather high.

Costa Maya

Tourist trap; could not browse in peace without someone asking you to buy something. Everything seemed overly priced.
