We chose this cruise for its' itinerary, length, and price. We originally booked an outside cabin on deck 3 but was upgraded to a Level 8 veranda with concierge services when prices dropped as cruise time approached. We were assigned cabin 8109 which is on the port side of the Constellation. Prior to embarkation we stayed 2days in Rome and did the usual tourist site visits, we however did not do the Vatican. Rome was everything we had read about it, the historic sites were awesome. Rome herself seems to be in need of some refreshing thru out the city, she looks run down and soiled.

After a car service ride to the port we were boarded in a timely manner with no problems. We had lunch in the main dining room in order to avoid the expected "rush" in the Sea Side Café Buffet. Our first lunch went well, the food and service was excellent. After lunch we were able to access our cabin and meet our attendants, Huber and his assistant Ryan. After about 2 minutes in the cabin my DW began detecting odors in the bathroom and the sofa in the cabin. Huber and Ryan scrubbed the bathroom down while we attended the muster drill but the deodorizer they used on the sofa just didn't do the job. The smell seemed to be a musty body odor and was still noticeable after a good scrubbing. Also the bed skirting was dirty and needed to be changed.

The ship was in good shape but starting to look worn and dated in areas, but it was very clean. I was amazed at how clean the public toilet rooms thru out the ship were. The staff were constantly in and out keeping the toilet rooms spotless. We chose any time seating for our dining selection and the service and food was mostly excellent except for a couple of chicken selections and a breakfast episode when I was seated along a wall and nobody seemed to be servicing my table, no big deal. After letting the staff know about the "tough" piece of chicken they were very over the top in offering another choice of entrée. I think everyone who mattered came to the table to apologize, well, maybe not the ship captain.

The odor problems were a big thumbs down.
