We are not cruise types although we are in every way the target audience for Viking. But a year and a half ago we got a brochure in the mail (we get a lot of travel brochures) and noticed that a booking in 2016 would be a two-fer. We really can't afford the cruise at full price but saving one fare? That was intriguing.
After much hemming, hawing and discussion, we settled on a "Romantic Danube" cruise from Nuremberg to Budapest. We opted out of pre- and post- stays in Prague and Budapest. We reviewed the fee-based optional excursions and decided against them. And we hoped for good weather.
We had a wonderful time. Met extremely nice people. And cruises and tours are just not for us. We don't really play well with others, we dislike adjusting our pace to match someone else's, and we just need to set our own schedule.
The room was small but efficient and pleasant. We were on starboard, and occasionally found ourselves blocked in by other Viking ships moored next to us. But not a problem. When I worked at the desk and my husband tried to get past me it was tight. But not bad. Linens were fresh and good quality. Bathroom was well equipped. Plenty of hangers and drawer space. I don't really have anything to compare the room to, but I thought it was very pleasant. And having a little balcony to sit on was a treat.
