Took the train from termini station, Rome to cruise port for 5 euros. It's about a 7 minute walk from station along a flat walkway to port entrance where a free shuttle picks you up to bring you to the ship. Very easy. Glad we didn't spend the money for a cruise transfer. There were people at the train station that would carry your bag for tips. For 2 euros, it was worth it if you have anyone that struggles with walking/luggage, etc.

This was our first cruise. We thought the lines were long to check in, but don't have anything to compare it to. Took around 40 minutes to get to room. Our cabin location was fantastic for us. It was one of the new rooms on deck 11. Very quiet hallway front of ship on starboard side. Only people that used the hallway were the 15 rooms in that location. Close to pools, windjammer but tucked out of the way. The view was great from the balcony. Cabin steward was excellent.

The food was good. Certainly not gourmet dining, but nice enough. We enjoyed eating dinner in Tides and chatting with others at our table. We ate at the windjammer for breakfast and lunch. Avoid the scrambled eggs on the buffet. If you go to the back you can get eggs cooked fresh anyway you like.

Cabin D2

Loved the location. Seemed to be average size for a ship. It is right under the running track. The first day or two we thought it might be a problem with hearing people running over our heads early in the morning. Either we got used to it or people stopped running early in the morning by day three;). It wasn't an issue.

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

We stayed overnight at hotel guliana and walked to termini for a train to port. Cheap and easy. FYI, the train that leaves for the port is on the right hand side and waayyy down past the other trains. It was a bit of a trek. Gate 23.

Taormina (Messina)

We've already been to Taormina and Etna. Both are worth doing, but Taormina might be a crowded and lose a lot of its charm if your on an organized march to see the highlights. I think Etna would be a better tour for people on a large tour. We choose the hop on/off so Messina which honestly doesn't have much to recommend it. We enjoyed the line that went along the shore better than the line that went around town

Mykonos

We were able to dock and take the water bus for 5 euros. The cruise offered a shuttle for 12. The water bus takes you right to town and is much more convenient than were the shuttle drops you off. The island was lovely. We just wandered around and took pictures. If I had to do it again I would rent a car for the day and drive around the island

Kusadasi

There were many tours available as we left the cruise terminal. For $50 we were on a full size bus with 13 other people for a tour of euphese. The guide was excellent! Very knowledgable. Although, listening to other guides as we toured the ruins I thought they were all very well informed. I was impressed with the professionalism of the guides there..

However, it seems they all end at a silk factory and tour of rug makers. Be warned, they are a very hard sell! Be firm and walk smartly or you may end up with an expensive, albeit gorgeous, hand made rug. All merchants were aggressively selling their wares and can be a bit overwhelming if you aren't firm. Once they know you aren't buying anything, they'll say "you're breaking my heart"... We broke a lot of hearts that day...it was well worth it though, we enjoyed the tour and the town very much

Santorini

for 20 euro we took the ferry to the left when we got of the tender and avoided the donkeys and lines at the cable cars. The ferry took us to the other port and included a bus ride to oura sp?? walked around and took gorgeous photos and window shopped. The 20 euros also included a bus ride back to other side where you can take the cable car down to the port or ride the donkeys. I felt bad for the donkeys so walked down the donkey stairs. It was quick and easy. I did it in 15 minutes with flip flops for shoes. Gorgeous views walking down

Athens (Piraeus)

Ive already been to the Acropolis so did the hop on/off of Athens. Another city that doesn't have much to recommend other than the main tourist spots. Plaka district was closed on Sunday we were there.

Naples

Already been to Pompeii and Amalie coast. Went to Capri instead on our own. It was stunning. We took the hydrofoil from same port for 19 euros. Split a taxi up to Anacapri right away and rode the chairlift to the top. Wandered Anacapri then split taxi back to Capri. It is a gorgeous island. We road the funicular back to port for 1.80 euro. We almost missed ship as the 4:30 ferry was sold out by 4:00. Recommend buying your return ticket in advance
