Our group of four ladies arrived in Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday, stayed one night at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper before embarkation. The next day, we took a cab to Port Everglades. We arrived around noon and the whole process was quick and smooth. This was good especially because I felt like I was running a fever and my throat was extremely sore. We could not get into our rooms yet, so we went up to the Windjammer. It was very crowded and difficult to find a place to sit, especially since we were carrying around our carry-ons. Before eating, we went to Portofino and made our reservation for Wed. nite dinner. No problem there as we got a good time (8:00 pm). After lunch we checked to see if our rooms were ready. They were, and I was glad because I was feeling worse by the moment and I got to rest for a while. I sent my fellow travelers off to explore the ship. Our cabin attendant, Ashley, was very attentive and made sure I had ice for ice water. I checked with the ship's doctor schedule and he was not available till 4pm. I was there right at 4 and I was diagnosed quickly as having strep and given antibiotics and instructions to gargle and also some theraflu for fever and pain. When I was leaving the Dr.'s office the ship was in the middle of beginning muster drill so I was directed up w/o my life vest to my station. I was allowed to sit over on the side so that I would not be breathing on everyone. Even though the ship's Dr. is expensive. I was impressed with the quick efficiency and care I was given. I spent that first night and next day (sea day) in bed. Thank goodness we had a balcony stateroom as I was able to sit outside for a while and feel some sun. That evening I was feeling good enough to go to dinner (formal night). We had a very nice waiter and assistant. They always brought us extra food if we had trouble making a selection. Portofino's was awesome and was a great deal for $20. We ate breakfast a few mornings in the dining room and found that to be very nice and more relaxing than the Windjammer. Went to a few good shows. The Motown Group was terrific as were the ice skating shows and Quest. We really enjoyed the piano sing along in the Schooner and I was impressed with all the activity going on each evening in the Promenade. The ship was very 'alive' and friendly. The gentleman at the excursion desk was fun and very kind. I was very impressed with RCI's effort to promote 'proper cruise behavior' obviously geared towards crazy spring break behaviors...but it was also beneficial for all to remind us of the 'right' way to 'behave' while on vacation.
Nice room with balcony. Plenty of storage space for 2 people. Comfortable beds with nice linens. Showers are somewhat difficult to figure out how to get hot water.
