Travelling with a friend, this was our first Viking cruise and first river cruise as well. We decided to go as an incentive/reward for my friend's recovery from hip replacement surgery. The choice of itinerary was based on length of cruise (I had commitments that precluded a longer cruise) and the desire to see a part of France I had never travelled, and one my friend had not seen in over 40 years.

The experience of a Viking cruise was well worth our time and money. From the moment we claimed our luggage and walked out to meet our transfers at the airport, we knew we were in undeniably experienced and knowledgeable hands. Once onboard, the food and wines were excellent, the staff attentive and the ambiance relaxing yet stimulating. The included excursions were interesting and definitely should be taken. My friend on occasion chose the "leisurely" tour if there was a chance for too many stairs, and we compared notes after, finding that the regular tour generally had more information. We also added a few optional excursions and found them to be best of all!

We are now negotiating when to take the next one - my friend is ready to leave anytime, but my scheduled commitments are a bit more demanding. But we are definitely returning within the year - perhaps the Danube next time?

Cabin Review

Veranda Stateroom

Cabin B

Ours was in a great location, and a balcony is worth the extra cost. Beds are European sized (twin) but upgraded linens and excellent room stewards. As everyone points out, it's the details that make the difference - liter glass bottles of water for each guest every morning and refreshed in the afternoon, heated bathroom floor, bathroom light that works independently of the card activated cabin lights.
