This was our first cruise. We chose this cruise because of the value and the convenience of cruising out of a port close to home.
The Granduer of the Seas is a smaller, older ship, so keep that in mind when choosing it. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of a mega-ship, but it doesn't have the crowds either. And I felt it was a more intimate experience because you would see and talk to the same people from day to day.
The ship itself is in need of a sprucing up. It's due for one in April of 2017. But this is just cosmetic. Some drawers in the cabins have dings and are hard to open, fabric looks a little worn - things like that.
We had what they called a large inside stateroom. It wasn't very large, but it was fine for 2 people. There was lots of storage and many hangers in the large closet.
We only had a chair, not a sofa, as was pictured in the sample room. And the space for the queen sized bed was tight. The bathroom showers are tiny. But the stateroom attendant kept everything spotless and made it a point to remember our names.
Hamilton is very quaint, but quiet. The Dockyard area is now the place all the cruise ships go. The restored fort was interesting. The shops were nice. The little Snorkel Beach was fine, since we couldn't get to the more famous beaches because of the bad weather. But go to the other beaches if you can.
