I chose this cruise from Perth to Sydney because I have not been that part of Australia. I have been to Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns and the Outback but not WA. We have a pre-cruise in Perth which was wonderful. What a nice city - good food as well.

We checked into the Dawn Prince Mar 26, 2016. The check in process, I would say is 'smooth' though it seems Princess is habitually asking people to wait for their numbers. We were expecting a rather old ship but to our surprise, the ship has been renovated - especially the buffet and dinning areas. Service has been excellent - room attendant, buffet staff and dinning room staff. The purser area is a little soft as it seems there are a couple of people on training. There are parts of the cabin needs refreshing but it is comfortable.

Most impressive is the food on this ship. I have always think the food in Princess is boring with the same menu wherever one travels to and my previous experience is that they only over water-melon, cantaloup and honey dew as fruits for every destination. Much to our surprise, the food is the most wonderful experience on this ship (other than the wonderful staff). A variety of fruits were offered each day - oranges, apples, pears, tangerines, papayas, kiwis, mangoes, grapes.... Scallops and shrimps are offered in many of the meals. Not only were they available, they were cooked to perfection! (only see on upscale restaurants - normally they are overcooked!) I was most impressed.

Port Reviews

Perth (Fremantle)

We did a pre cruise stay ourselves. Went to Rottness Island (excellent) and did the Pinnacle Dessert tour - nice.

Melbourne

We did not take any shore excursions. We just took a taxi and did our own tour of the city. Had lunch in China town, visited Queen Victoria Market and did the free city tram ride and took the taxi back to port.
