We are in our late 60s and love cruising. We usually go to be on the ship and not for the ports. As a result, we seldom book excursions. Alaska and Hawaii are the exceptions. Europe would be an exception if we went there but so far, no go. We are on a fixed income, located near the west coast and by budgeting carefully and shopping for deals, we manage to take 2-3, 7-night or longer cruises a year. We have cruised with Carnival, Celebrity, Princess and Royal Caribbean so far. This was our first cruise with HAL. We have never been on a cruise we haven't thoroughly enjoyed. We also have never been on a perfect cruise where there was not a small problem of some sort or another or something not particularly to our liking.

Every ship and every line, in our experience, has had it's pros and cons.

Keeping that in mind, here is my review of the Westerdam, 7 night cruise to Alaska on 5/14/16 r/t from Seattle.

Cabin Review

Signature Superior Verandah Suite

Cabin SY

The room was wonderful. Spacious, lots of light and more storage than I have ever had in a stateroom. The balcony was very large, probably 15 feet wide by 8 feet deep. The bathroom had a double sink, a jacuzzi bathtub/shower combination with a separate shower cubicle as well. Medicine cabinets for each sink. The two minor issues with the room were bathtub water on hottest setting was only lukewarm although sink faucets and separate shower faucets had HOT water. This would only be an issue if you are someone who likes to take really hot baths. I do. Second issue was the air vent in the bathroom gave out a high pitched whistling noise that, after a while, became very irritating. I spoke with maintenance about it and they said the only way to fix it was to shut off air to the bathroom. It was apparently inherent in the system. Did not want a bathroom without air so I lived with it. It was not audible in the room, only when I was in the bathroom. King bed was very comfortable.

Room also had a small TV and DVD player.

Beautiful.

Fun to walk around. Best place to shop for Alaska stuff.
