My wife and I sailed on the Danube from Nuremberg to Budapest last September. While we had travelled a lot, and been on many "ocean going" cruises, this was our first river cruise. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
We sailed on the Viking Alta. The ship was functional - narrow and with a shallow draft. The ship was attractively appointed and very clean. There were many suites but we chose to stay in a "standard" room and save our money for other things. Our room was what we expected, clean and pleasant. There was TV and WiFi (We did not watch much TV but we did use the Wifi and it was free which was a big plus!). The showers were also a bit larger than on ocean going vessels and, while we are not large people, the large shower was a pleasant surprise!
There was a large dining room and on the deck above it, a large lounge. The lounge was the main congregation place for the guests. The "roof" of the ship was also open and it was a good place to sit and enjoy the Autumn sun. There was a small "porch" in the bow and it quickly became our favorite place on the ship.
The cabin was of adequate size. Especially liked the free wifi!
