This was my seventh cruise - and my second Alaskan cruise. Thankfully, we had BEAUTIFUL weather and were able to greatly enjoy Alaska, which is always wonderful. Otherwise, I would have been extremely disappointed with this trip.

First, we went on the cruise with my in-laws, who were celebrating their 50th anniversary. My husband was celebrating his birthday. I notified Princess of these events in advance, and while they decorated my in-laws' door with a sign and balloons, they ignored my husband's birthday. I know they got the message, because they gave him a coupon for a free photography sitting for his birthday, on the date I had given them, which was not his actual birthday (it was a couple of days before the cruise). In addition, we made reservations at The Crab Shack and notified them at the time of my in-laws' anniversary and my husband's birthday. Once again, they acknowledged my in-laws but completely ignored my husband. Even after notifying the attendants at The Crab Shack and our room steward, there was no attempt at reconciling the oversight. So the only way they observed my husband's birthday was by trying to sell him something.

There was a significantly greater amount of upselling on this cruise than I had experienced in the past. My husband said he couldn't work out at the gym without someone trying to sell him something. The Sanctuary – which is a glorified lounge – costs money to use. I never saw anyone in there. My mother-in-law and I attended the "blink and you'll miss it" galley tour after attending the required, painfully long and bad "cooking show" beforehand (they don't tell you about the show when they promote the galley tour). Despite admitting that they use California olive oil in the show, THREE TIMES they tried to sell us olive oil from Italy on the galley tour, which lasted about two minutes and during which we couldn't even see or hear our tour guide. We were sheep ambling blindly through one corner of a cruise ship kitchen. One note: on display during the galley tour were beautifully sculpted fruits and cheeses that I never saw anywhere on the ship otherwise.
