Sail Date: May 2016

We chose this cruise for our honeymoon based on the destination - despite having an appealing offer from our best man to sail on the Allure of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) for close-to-nothing - and deeply regretted it. For one, the ship is the rockiest cruise ship I've ever been on so if you get motion sickness I would highly recommend you look elsewhere. Secondly, despite being on our honeymoon and being told we would receive a surprise by the agent who booked our reservation over the phone, we received NO such treatment in all 7 days we spent on board.

Because of the size of the ship, they select contestants for the on-board shows out of a hat, meaning chances are slim if you are looking to participate and those selected aren't necessarily those who want to participate most or are most entertaining. On one night, my new husband - who is wheelchair bound - and I went to the Atrium to watch the newlyweds or not so newlyweds show and were asked by a crew member (Rudi) to move from where we were sitting because we were "in the way" of thru traffic. Having been on numerous ships onboard NCL and Carnival, I felt appalled. I've never felt singled out or discriminated against in such a way on any vacation I've been on, either at sea or otherwise. To make matter worse, able bodied guests were allowed to sit in the SAME location within minutes of Rudi asking us to move. When I went to guest services, they offered to have someone call us. When Paquito, the Assistant Cruise Director, called us at our stateroom he was far from apologetic. Rather than righting the crew member's wrong, he questioned the validity of our claim, asking for the time and location of the incident and insisting they have no crew member by the name of Rudi, as if I would spend time out of my precious honeymoon to fabricate such a story! I was livid.

In addition, their housekeeping staff is the rudest I've ever seen. Never, in any hotel or cruise ship, have I ever had to move housekeeping carts and debris (vacuum cleaners, trash bags, you name it) on a daily basis because the staff kept leaving them in the middle of the hallway. This greatly inconvenienced my husband, who is a quadriplegic, and prevented him from being able to get to and from our stateroom independently. Being that he is only 27 years old and treasures his independence, this is one of the primary reasons why cruising is our preferred method of travel. Yet, the housekeeping staff did not refrain from leaving their carts and other debris in the hallway, even though we asked them to directly and brought this to the attention of the guest services desk multiple times.

Port Reviews

Cozumel

Very tourist oriented and almost feels like you haven't left the states but it is nice if you are just looking for a beach day and not looking to get a feel of all that Mexico and Mexican culture really have to offer.

Costa Maya

Very little to do or see other than Mayan Ruins, which I heard were not worth the visit, and more beach days (by this point we were sunburnt and not interested in getting any more sun so we spent most of the day shopping and using free wi fi in a restaurant).

Miami

The boarding process was extremely slow.
