This was my 5th cruise, 2nd on Royal Caribbean, and it was the best cruise ever! Traveled with 3 others, 2 of which had never cruised before. Needless to say, it was a fabulous experience for all! I chose this cruise for the itinerary - 5 islands in all. It is so exciting to wake up in a different port almost every day!
We traveled from Kentucky to San Juan. We had a 58 minute layover in Atlanta, which really had me worried as to whether or not we would make our connection. Turns out we got off the plane and our departure gate was the next gate over! Lucky us! Arrived in San Juan around 3:30, grabbed a taxi and headed to the port. Our taxi driver was extremely talkative and gave us a great overview of all the sights that we passed along the way. They do drive a little crazy there, so hang on! Made it to the port around 4:15, checked our bags in and within 15 minutes we were boarding the ship. We took our carry-on bags with us and headed up to the room. Met our room steward, Janice (pronounced Ja-Niece) and headed out to take a short tour of the ship. Had to attend the muster drill at 5:45, then went back to the room to unpack and get settled in. Once unpacked we headed up to the pool deck to get a little "frozen refreshment", aka Pina Colada! It was yummy! Then we went to the Windjammer to grab a light snack as we hadn't really eaten since breakfast.
We chose "Any Time" dining and it worked well for us. The first night we went at 7:30 and had no problem getting a table for 4. Our server, Aila, was absolutely fabulous, along with her assistant, Rohan. Aila could have been a server in any 5 star restaurant!! The food in the Main Dining Room was absolutely fabulous, contrary to what some of the previous reviews have stated. I read so many reviews prior to going on this cruise and have come to the conclusion that some people are just not happy unless they are complaining!! Several of us had Strip Steaks 2 or 3 times during the week and they always came out cooked to perfection! I also had one of the best crab cakes that I have ever eaten. The minestrone soup was delicious, as well as the seared scallop appetizer. Desserts were tasty as well. Some that we tried were strawberry cheesecake, chocolate molten cake, apple strudel w/vanilla ice cream and crème brulee. Now time to hit the gym!! As a side note, we tried the breakfast in the Windjammer the first morning and I was not at all impressed with it. So every day thereafter we ate breakfast in the main dining room on Deck 3 and it was delicious! Eggs came out perfectly cooked every day and it usually only took 30-45 minutes for breakfast. A much better choice than the Windjammer in my opinion.
