Beautiful ship, but "old" mechanics need to be addressed!

Sail Date: Apr 2016
Cabin: Large Ocean-View Stateroom

We were excited to see how the changes were handled on the Veendam since we last sailed in 1998. We had heard that she had been in Dry Dock for refurbishing. When we first stepped on we were pleasantly surprised that she was so beautifully decorated. Everything was new and fresh, but still with beautiful fresh flowers and art everywhere.

The lido was was wonderful for our first lunch and thereafter with many choices to choose from and new hand-washing stations. Alll was well until that eve when we noticed a strong diesel smell that progressed together with soot appearing all over our counters. To make a long story short, after many other mishaps with the Front Office staff we were moved to another cabin after a week and also had problems there.

We were satisfied with everything else on the cruise (with the exception of the service in the Pinnacle) Service throughout the rest of the ship was top-notch plus!! The entertainment was very, very good and HAL has improved that in recent years. I was surprised with the movie on the last night and I think that was due to being in port, which is unusual, but still?!

Wonderful area and great tour with 2 other couples!

Gaspe

Cold and rainy - Took tender out and back. Thought $10 shuttle was overpriced to cross the bridge. Took advantage of passengers
