This was cruise #9 for my wife and I. We cruised 7 with Carnival and 2 with RCL. This was our least favorite of all our cruises. We felt Carnival's cut backs are very evident during the cruise which has negatively impacted the services onboard.

Embarkation did not go smoothly at all. We felt the lines @ 12:00 were way to long. There were lines everywhere: drop off luggage, a line to get sign and sail cards, then another line/ process to go through the doors onto the ship...

After all of the lines, about 2 hours from start to finish we finally made it onto the ship. Our room was ready by the time we found the room 7297. We always prefer interior rooms as we like the darkness. Upon opening the door we met our cabin steward. We could not help but notice how warm our room was. We tried to turn down the thermostat but it was set as cold as it would go. We mention the situation to the steward and she called maintenance to come to the room. Once maintenance arrived he took the temperature of the room and it was 76º. He then said he would look into it... Needless to say we called on day 2 and he once again showed up and took the temp of the room and found it was 77º. I needed to make a contraption near the ceiling vent so that any of the air that was coming out of the vent would blow onto the bed so that we could feel the cool air... It never felt cold enough!

Port Reviews

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

We booked our Snorkel/ Catamaran excursion through the ship as we felt the Dominican Republic can be a little unpredictable. So we felt it would be best/ safer to book through the ship. We needed to board a bus in order to drive to 45minutes to Sosua we needed to taxi by small boat in order to get to the catamaran. Once we arrived on the catamaran we were greeted by very friendly staff and were made to feel very welcomed aboard. We travelled a short distance to our stop where were entered a rough sea! This made snorkeling a little difficult and we needed to fight some of the waves. Not many people went in the water on our second stop as the water was still quite rough. The fish was plentiful in both locations and the guides fed the fish! There were some people on the catamaran that were ill because the of rough waters. After everyone was done snorkeling lunch and alcoholic beverages were served! The catamaran set sailed all the way back to the cruise ship pier! Another great time!

Half Moon Cay

This is an excellent port to just hang and relax! We enjoyed our time in the pirate ship and had a few drinks! We also spent time in the crystal clear water!
