Please note: I got a really good deal on this cruise. I didn't know what to expect after all the negative reviews, probably from those who went during the storm, or norovirus outbreak. However, my cruise, and the ship surpassed my expectations.
I live nearby, so I didn't explore the area. It's only a 30-45 minute drive from my home. Probably less if the Bayonne Bridge was open!
Embarkation went very smooth. I got to the terminal at 11 a.m. The only complaint was the long traffic line to get into the teriminal. That took at least 20 minutes. Once I checked in my luggage, there were ship employees checking in people in front of the building. I had my documents, and photo already filled out, so a very nice lady used an iPad to check me in. The whole process took 5 minutes. I went into the terminal, through security, then right to the ship.
They tell you not to rent a vehicle, but I did. The Spyder ride around the island was fun! At least take a taxi around. You have to explore this island. So much to see, and do! Don't miss the French side beaches, and Maho beach for the best plane watching experience ever!
It was raining, and I didn't really feel safe here along. Bring your family, or at least a buddy when you are exploring. Looks a little run down, but there are some nice, colorful buildings.
Get a day pass to a beach. Beautiful beaches! Very friendly here. The shops outside the ship are good.
Only thing that's creepy is the soldiers with guns walking around. Other than that, enjoy the beach, and barbecue!
Only complaint was the long car line getting into the terminal. Go early, and if you have got all your documents set, you'll be on the ship in no time. If you are a visitor, go to N.Y.C. Check my City out. :)
