Sail Date: Mar 2009
Cabin: Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Embarkation: 5 Stars We arrived at Terminal 18 before 10am on the 23rd, to be told by a very rude Jamaican speaking Security woman to go wait outside until 11. It was pretty crowded outside with all the people disembarking from the last Cruise, so I had a smoke & then we slipped back inside a little after 10. A nice older man opened up the people-herders for us to get in line to go thru Security around 10:20, at 10:40 they started letting people go thru Security & we were upstairs in 5 minutes checking in. Check in was painless; showed our IDs and they gave us SeaPass Cards*. We sat for another 10 minutes until they opened the doors to the gangway allowing us to board the Ship with a quick stop to take a photo to match to your SeaPass Cards. We were on the Ship by 11:00! Then the 'Welcome Aboard' Photos are taken as soon as you get on**. *The SeaPass Cards are awesome! After getting them, you never needed any other ID for the rest of the trip. They are laminated so you can take them in the Pools, Hot Tubs, Ocean, River, etc. without worries. You show them when you get off & back on the Ship and that's it. They can be connected to your Credit Cards as well, so you never needed any cash either unless you had an Excursion or Shopped off the Ship. **Do not skip this photo op as we did due to all the ugly warehouse scenery around the Terminal, they actually do a pretty good job on them & we regretted not taking them after seeing other peoples. You should try to get every photo taken that you can as you only pay for what you decide to buy anyway... Our Stateroom: 5 Stars The 1st thing we did was go to our room since somehow we totally missed the part where you drop off your luggage - I still don't know when/where we were supposed to have done this. We had a carry-on Backpack & 2 fairly big pieces which I didn't feel like lugging around until 1pm when they said the rooms would be available (even though it was our fault we didn't give them our baggage). So we tried our luck & headed to the room; they were still cleaning it, but we explained our situation & the Room Steward let us slip our bags under the bed until the room was ready - sweet! We stayed in room 9364, which is a D1 Balcony Stateroom. It was perfect! It's plenty big enough, with a Queen sized bed, big sofa, table, a desk/make-up area with chair & of course sliding glass doors with a Balcony. The bathroom was bigger than expected with a round shower & plenty of water pressure! (I'm 5'11', 250 lbs. & was not crowded). Food: 4 ½ Stars (would've been 5 Stars, see Complaints below) As soon as we dropped off our bags, we headed to the Windjammer, which has spectacular views & set the tone for the next 5 nights. The Service was excellent; although there is one waiter/waitress assigned to each table, they overlapped and you would have at least 3 people at any given meal checking up on you: "more coffee, tea, can I bring you anything?" The food choices in the Windjammer & Jade were plentiful and contrary to what I read elsewhere, they did change on a daily basis. Yes, some items are repeated, but there are different & unique offerings every day. My wife & I thought the food was very good in these 2 restaurants; so good in fact that we only ate Dinner in the Main Dining Room on the 1st & 2nd nights (we wanted to go there for the Formal Night!), the rest of the time we ate in Jade & the Windjammer. The Main Dining Room is beautiful, and the food is very good, but it was not really our style. We normally eat more vegetables than meat & the food here is what you'd see in a finer place; delicious, but more for looks than a full belly. I remember one meal I had a nice piece of meat, but it came with 2 broccoli florets and some other side... sure, it looked beautiful, but 2 pieces of broccoli?! Please don't let that discourage you though! As I said, it was delicious and beautiful, just not for us. Actually I might've eaten there more nights, but my wife missed her Veggies, and I wanted her happy. We didn't eat at Johnnie Rockets, Chops or Portofino, so can't comment on them, but I liked everything that I did eat! Also, there is a Cafe in the Promenade where they offer free coffee, sandwiches, pizza, snacks, pastries, cookies, etc. and depending on the time of day there will be different things available. The Ship: 5 Stars The Navigator of the Seas is a truly beautiful Ship; from the moment you walk on to the time you get off, there is so much to see and do. The 1st day is spent walking around with open jaws just trying to take it all in. There are so many Bars, Shops, Restaurants, Pools, Hot Tubs, a Cafe, Casino, Mini-golf, Rock Wall, Ping Pong, Basketball, etc. that it's fun to just walk around & try to see it all. Everything is so beautiful, from the floor to the ceilings. Marble Tile all over, Blown Glass Flowers, so many little touches that you notice everywhere you look. The Main Dining Room is 3 stories high & each floor is done in a different motif. The Dance Club (Dungeon) is really cool & so is everything else; there's Movies, Shows, Ice Shows, Game Shows, The Quest, Karaoke, Game Rooms... if you're bored on this Ship, then it's your own fault! Entertainment: 5 Stars We missed the Ice Show, but we were told it was great & that we really missed something, but there is just so much to do that it's like Disney World, you have to go a few times to see everything! I'm not much for Broadway type Shows, but Now & Forever was pretty good & some of the performers had great voices! I was so amazed at their ability to do all the dance moves they were doing when that was on the night of the Ship's worst rocking & swaying. The Cruise Director (Simeon?) was so much fun & got everyone involved & pumped up for the Shows. The 70's Night was a blast and so was Love & Marriage, but the real fun was The Quest!! I've never heard my wife laugh so hard for so long in my life!! Activities: 5 Stars As I've mentioned, there is everything & anything on this Ship from Ice Skating to Basketball, Ping Pong to Rock Climbing, Shows ranging from "Broadwayish" to flat out hilarious. You could do some Karaoke & then head to Dance floor, have some fun in the Casino & then hit a Pub. Do some miniature golfing & then stop by the 19th Hole for a cold one! Shop, relax, sing, dance, play, whatever your heart desires... Excursions: Not Rated We did not use any of the Ships Excursions so I can't comment on them; but in Cozumel we went Sight-seeing, Shopping & ate lunch at an authentic (no English, only Pesos) Mexican Restaurant off the beaten path, very good! In Belize we went Cave Tubing thru cave-tubing.com - that was an AWESOME, fun day! Disembarkation: 5 Stars We had an early Flight home (10:30am), so I was a little worried about making it. The day before we left I went to the Purser's Desk & told them about the flight & they gave us 2 early departure tickets (which were for the 2nd Group off) & told us to be in some room on the 3rd floor between 8-8:15am with all our bags. Well, we got to the elevator on the 9th floor at 8am & the whole area was packed, so we used the stairs to go down. This turned out to be a good thing because when we got to the 4th floor people were getting off the Ship, so we never went down & waited in the room on the 3rd floor, we just walked right off from the 4th floor at 8:05 without any problems. We were thru Customs in a flash & were in a Taxi by 8:20. We got to the Airport a few minutes later, checked our bags with the Porters & were through Security by 8:45. The longest line was at Dunkin' Doughnuts for coffee (15 minutes). We were sitting at the Gate at 9am, less than an hour from Stateroom to Gate. Things couldn't have gone any smoother! Complaints: Very few, but 2 that stand out. They call it Formal Night for a reason; you're supposed to dress Formal! I would've had a better impression of the Main Dining Room if they enforced the Dress Code on Formal Night more. There were quite a few people dressed in T-shirts or shorts & 'tropical' type shirts. If you're going to dress like that, go to the Buffets on Formal Night. Secondly, there was some idiot walking all around the Windjammer one day in Shorts & Sandals, that's it. If I wanted to look at some tattooed guy's pierced nipples while I eat my lunch, I'd invite my brother over for a BBQ! P.S. Pierced nipples on men were popular for about 1 summer 10 years ago, dude~. RCCL should turn people away at the door! Praises: All of the Staff is courteous, super friendly & helpful! For having over 4000 people on this Ship, I never felt crowded or had any trouble finding a place to sit & relax. The public areas are all clean & well kept. The food is great, as well as the entertainment. The variety of the different areas was impressive, you could go from a Piano Bar to a Pool Bar to a Spa to a Show to a Mall in a few minutes, all with their own distinct flavor, but they seemed to fit seamlessly as a whole & not feel like they were thrown together. The Navigator of the Seas is a great Ship, the Itinerary was perfect and the Shows were great. This was a great trip for us & we are so grateful for everything & everyone who made it so memorable! Thank you!!
