We are experienced cruisers, with this cruise on Freedom our 17th, and our 8th on Royal Caribbean. After our last cruise on Independence last January, we were concerned about the slippage in service and food quality that we had experienced. I am glad to say that it appears that Royal is recognizing that the key to getting return cruisers is to provide better quality and service.
Embarkation at Port Canaveral couldn't have been easier. We drove in on Sunday morning (as we live just west of Orlando) and used off site parking. We were at the terminal within 15 minutes of leaving our car at about 11:00am. Check in was very quick, and we were on board by 11:30. Our cabin wasn't ready until 1, so we found a quiet corner off the main Promenade to relax and people watch.
Our cabin (8224) was a balcony cabin on the Starboard side - plenty of room for luggage, with adequate closet space. The balcony was a good size, with 2 nice chairs and a small table. Just right for a cup of coffee in the am, or a drink in the evening. Our cabin steward, Solomon, did a great job of keeping the room clean and tidy.
Quick and Easy Embarkation and Debarkation.
Loved the Dragon's Tail Coaster. The resort is nice - pretty beaches. The vendors at the Craft Market are very aggressive, but that's to be expected.
Average shops at the Cruise Port - not a lot to do if you don't take an excursion. We've done the food tour on a previous cruise, so wandered around the shops, then went back to the ship to relax.
Good place to shop for jewelry or watches - just make sure you know what you're buying and do your homework.
We've been here multiple times -we took a taxi downtown, and strolled the shops. Did a little shopping and then went back to ship. Beware of this port as far as some shops go - they are known for selling substandard jewelry and so forth.
