I was interested in the ports especially Istanbul and was very disappointed when they changed Istanbul as the final destination to Athens. It was for security reasons so really can't blame Oceania. The cruise was real good but decided that I wouldn't go on another cruise that stopped in a different port every day. There is no time to enjoy the on board activities.
Food and service were excellent on board. They said that the dress code is "country club casual." Many people looked more like "country club sloppy." They said no blue jeans in the restaurants but did not enforce these "rules." I was a little annoyed at this as I dressed appropriately for dinner and bothered to take clothing to that effect even though I would have preferred not to as we were travelling another 3 weeks in Europe and did not need several items that I used on the cruise. I also travelled with one pair of black shoes and sandals. I purposely did not bring my running shoes as they are bulky for packing. They did not allow me to wear my sandals (not flip flops) to ride the exercise bike because you had to have closed shoes for the gym--an irrational rule as far as I'm concerned as I mountain bike every day at home in my sandals. I don't mean to sound so negative abut the cruise because I had a great time. These were just the things that annoyed me.
The staff and service were the best ever. Four shore excursions, tipping and internet were part of my package and although the cruise was a bit pricey I thought it well worth it. The internet, however, sucked. One device at a time in the cabin had internet --that was annoying--they should just have internet for the whole ship and factor it into the cost.
It was called an excursion but was just a bus ride to and from Florence with some trivia along the way.
Great guided walking tour of Pompei
Basically a ride into Taormina and a tour of the Greek theatre. Great guide (Francesca).
