We are a family of three : myself (51), DH (55), and son (16) travelling on the second week of our spring break. We have travelled on Princess and Carnival- this is our third cruise. Overall we had a great holiday.I hope you can get a few tips from this review.
The Great stuff: -we loved the ship itself- the wood, the Promenade Deck , the flowers, the teak loungers - we thought the food was pretty great except for the last night- tough shrimp etc.- eat at the lido on the last night -loved the omelettes at breakfast, the pastries-would have liked to see more exotic fruits like papaya etc., loved the asian station for lunch and the bread pudding, liked the food at the deck bbq (ribs were great)and the bbq at Half Moon Cay was fantastic -loved the illusionist Leo Ward and the string quartet - loved the shows in the Culinary Arts center with the chefs and the one on flower arranging -embarkation and disembarkation were handled beautifully -As You Wish Dining worked fine- we only had to wait a very short time once- we were always willing to sit with others- we had some great company -we liked the gym and did two spin classes
The Just Okay Stuff: -the service: for us not really a notch above- just okay-in fairness we were in Code Red for the first few days and the staff were visibly overworked- but even after that they all seemed to be sort of going through the motions- not a big deal for us as long was we get our food we are OK.. -we had a balcony cabin- the pullout couch was not comfortable to sleep on - mattress was very thin- cabins are not good for 3 if one person has to sleep on this..We asked cabin steward if he could put another mattress underneath or something -he said no we had to go and see the front desk-We did not want to take the time to do this-I felt the cabin steward should have done this -room service- we had to ask for a menu as it was not in our room- first time we tried to use it we were on hold for 10 mins- I hung up . Second time it worked fine
The Bad Stuff:
-the deck BBQ didn't have enough seating- people were walking around with plates of food getting cold-it's hard to eat big plates of ribs standing up- a suggestion- why not turn the whole lido into the deck bbq that night- not just the part around the pool -the demographic on this ship was quite old- there were only a few teens but our son had a good time in spite of it and the youth coordinator was trying hard- the smaller children seemed to be having a blast -We purchased a Navigators choice wine package for 5 bottles- they just keep track of the number you have had manually by themselves -you don't sign for each one. On the last night we asked for our last bottle- believe me we had been keeping track!- and they said no more left!! i think what happened is that on the first night they were out of one selection and gave us another but must have ticked off the both... anyways it kind of ruined our last meal explaining it and getting no for an answer.. -not enough music around the ship at key times like dinners, deck parties etc- the ship seemed to be missing the excitement factor and we are not late night people...
