Chose this first cruise after dry dock for a short getaway and the private island and Key West R&R. The ship is a nice size. Having an aft balcony I missed aft elevators but the walk is doable and counters the food consumption. There were contractors on board but rarely seen. There were some register issues at the bars and a room service snafu, but everyone was cheerful, apologetic and worked very hard to create a great experience. I had not traveled with Royal since the 90s and thought the food was "better" than other lines I've been on lately. The Windjammer had limited options, but acceptable for breakfast and a quick lunch. We had great service in the dining room every night. I liked the low key ambiance and I think the decor in the dining room on 5 is one of my all time favorites. It was such a short cruise that I did not try the specialty dining rooms and with the choices in the main dining room saw no "need" on this short trip for alternate evening dining.

The pool area was never crowded and with just a few kids onboard was enjoyable and easy to find a lounge chair on this port intensive haul. The pool deck is quite utilitarian in layouts and chair options, but I thought that was OK for a short cruise. The solarium was quiet and more "comfortable" but felt alittle crowded with all the furniture etc. It was difficult to get drinks at the pool bar, but other options are close by.

The private island is perfect for a beach day with everything you need and extra big tenders made it easy. Nassau I could have skipped, so just got off for a short time and enjoyed an empty ship for the rest of the day on a cruise with no sea days. Key West is a fun stop as expected. Could have used more time there. Embarking and debarking was quite organized. Customs was the pain it always is. I thought we'd get that out of the way in Key West, but no such luck! Great ship for a week or less trip.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E1

Great aft cabin. The quietest aft I've ever been in. The ocean was super smooth this cruise so there was no non-normal movement in the aft and I did not hear the typical sounds I hear docking in this cabin. The balcony is large on the afts with shade and sun. Loungers or chairs and a dining table plus a short patio table. The room was sparkling clean after dry dock and the beds pretty comfortable. I prefer a layout with the sofa near the balcony slider, but it's not a deal breaker just a little more awkward flow. Glad the shower did not have a curtain.
