Sail Date: Apr 2004

This was my maiden voyage as well as the ship's. Unfortunately the ship sailed too soon. Many quirks needed to be worked out before sailing.

We had a gorgeous stateroom with a balcony but no air-conditioning. We sailed on Saturday and slept with the balcony door opened because it was the only way we could be comfortable. After constant conversations with purser staff a technician finally came to make a computer diagnostic. He found that the thermostat was not operating. Unfortunately this did not rectify the problem. On Tuesday Senior purser Graham sent me a 13" table fan to circulate the air for sleeping. By Wednesday a Junior purser, Pamela (Italy) made an appointment for us to meet with the Chief of Engineering Operations. She told us that the cabins were governed at 24 degrees Celsius, 75 degrees Fahrenheit. We asked for a cabin change but were told it was impossible. We resigned ourselves to make the best of it. Friday I encountered other passengers that had been having the same air conditioning problems. Their room was changed but this was not their first Princess cruise.

I have heard other people talk about the food on Celebrity Cruises as being spectacular. This food was only OK. The buffet breakfasts were cold. Cold scrambled eggs, cold sausage, and cold hash browns were standard fare. I had also heard of "midnight buffets" with ice, vegetable, and butter sculptures. There were none on this cruise. Also, the food service at the Buffet was poor. On days when we were in port the buffet lines extended out the doors to the pool deck plus the flow of traffic from opposite directions made the opposing lines feel like the others were cutting in. We had chosen "personal choice" dining. Reservations were always closed at the two restaurants. Dinner menu's were forgettable. Thank God for the steak, we and our tablemates chose it four of the seven nights.
