I chose this cruise because of a low single supplement and it visitied 9 ports on the cruise. Ship had just out of drydock,so had some new carpeting in public areas and some new furniture. However there were some plumbing problems on the ship, flooded cabins, and one day a water pipe burst, with no water for a couple of hours.

I had not been on HAL since 2010,so I was surprised to see the many cutbacks taken. No ice carvings,no late night buffets. Still towels in the public bathrooms and the chime guy before dinner. Dinner portions were quite small,a lot of times I asked for 2 entrees. Variety of dinner entrees was not as good as in the past. For example,I had never seen until this cruise spaghetti and meatballs on an HAL dinner menu. Burgers and hot dogs at the dive-in diner very good.

Activities were ok,lots of trivia if you like that. Note after 11:30pm the ship is very quiet. Canned music in the disco, and the piano bar might be open. Cruise staff-cruise director Karen ok,Joel from New Zealand(evening pub trivia 7pm) and night dj good, Matt-trivia and cul. arts good,Jeff from Toronto-fantastic piano player/singer with stories about songs and artists. Piano bar is the place to go on the ship if you like piano bars. Karen and the HalCats very good live band. Delano-steel pan player very good (and even had a class to learn to play one).
