Visit to the Mangroves

Having just returned from our 10 day Quito and Galapagos experience, there are still visions of land and marine iguanas, blue-footed boobys and giant tortoises floating in our heads. What an experience! And Celebrity does it right.

We flew into Quito and were met by Celebrity staff who directed us to our bus and on to the Marriott hotel which was a very fine place to stay. Check-in of the group was amazingly simple and the hotel was comfortable. The tour on Saturday was fun and interesting. I would disagree with some who say that it is boring. The churches are beautiful, the bus ride is quite interesting, and the lunch was full of new foods to try. The setting at the restaurant was elegant. I also disagree with some who say it was not worth it about taking the trip after lunch to the Mitad del Mundo Park where you can stand on both sides of the equator. The day we visited there were puffy white clouds in the mountainous setting, the temperature was perfect, and it was nice to be set free to roam the park on our own. The colorful flags make it festive and even if it isn't really exactly on the equator, taking the photos was fun. To top the day on Saturday off, we ate at a great restaurant with fine service. When we left, the staff "clapped us out" which was a surprise and much appreciated.

The first moments on the ship were a bit hurried. We were just a little late arriving and had to squeeze lunch, muster, snorkel gear hand-outs, explanation of the next day's tours and dinner into a short period of time. We were all so excited that it didn't matter.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom

Cabin XD

We were surprised how easily we settled into this small room since we were used to verandah cabins on Celebrity's largest ships. The bed was comfortable, we found plenty of space for our extraneous stuff and the two closets made it easy for my husband and I to store all clothing. We did not spend much time in the room as we were so busy, but the showers were very good and every outlet worked. We were glad we didn't pay more for a room on a higher deck since our room was totally adequate, quiet and comfortable.
