This was my first cruise ever and I had decided I was going to have a good time no matter what. Well...I was NOT disappointed. The Dawn was a very lovely ship, easy to navigate and find things. Our cabin, a balcony at the front part of the ship, was well appointed and very comfortable, with plenty of closet space and drawers for our clothes. No complaints.
The food? More than adequate and lots of choice. We found it convenient to dine in the Plantation restaurant (buffet) for breakfast and lunch, but to book for the Waterfront at night. We tried Salt (Luke Mangan's restaurant) and found it excellent. The service in the Waterfront was exceptional, as was the service in Salt, but the food and drink service, in general, was of a very high standard through out. Our cabin stewards were wonderful and very helpful and friendly. They did their job, always, with a smile and exceptional courtesy. We loved the little touches of chocolates on our pillows some nights and towel animals on our bed on others. Lovely!
The staff work so hard and we were very impressed with how they kept smiles on their faces and superb attitudes at all times. 11 hour days! My goodness! We were grateful for and appreciative of their very hard work in making our holiday the joy that it was. We did the Island Hopper Cruise and enjoyed it all. I cannot speak more highly of the crew, staff and entertainment on board. I am amazed at the level of dedication and hard work that these people put in, day in, day out. Superb. My hat is off!
Very comfortable. Reasonable hanging space with lots of drawers and a safe. We had a fridge, but didn't really use it for much other than keeping our water cool. Bathroom had all we needed. Showers hot with good water pressure. Shower has a retractable clothes line for hanging wet swimmers/gym gear etc. Bed was very comfortable.
We didn't have long in Noumea only arriving in the late afternoon. Had we known that the food was the main attraction in Noumea itself, we would have partaken. This was our fault though, as we could have researched better. There isn't much to see in the town itself so do not have much to report. A bit longer in Noumea may have been better.
We went to Mele Village and then on to the Cascades. These two experiences were well worth it. Just be sure to wear shoes with grip to the Cascades. It can get a little slippery on the rocks higher up, but it is beautiful.
