This ship is identical to Eclipse I was on in the other direction last Nov. A fabulous ship, so clean and well maintained it looks two days old....everything you could want in a cruise, outdoor and indoor pools, endless places to eat, things to occupy your time and huge shows and specialty entertainers. The food through out the ship is as good as you could want in a 5 star hotel. My stateroom was on deck 8 and with a balcony and I was traveling solo so it was amazing...large T.V. that actually worked with films, news, cartoons for kids.

I take cruises because I find it the last remaining place I can dress UP and go to dinner. Sadly I had the same BAD experience on the Silhouette as I had on the Eclipse...being a single MALE the person assigning the tables decided I was irrelevant and I was give ON BOTH SHIPS the same bad table up against a work station...I had trays of dirty dishes pilled behind my head and my talbe and one other were stuck in between the station and a pole. I could see very little and being alone it made dining very boreing. I have a hearing problem so I dine alone rather than bug others when I can't answer them. I paid for select dining (paying all tips in advance)...It's advertised as Dine at Your Time and ge the best Available table. This dosn't happen! Others were getting reserved seating and had great tables every night - when I asked for a better table they sent me from Starboard side to Port side - TO THE IDENTICAL TABLE. I gave up, and stopped dressing for dinner, wore track suit and ate in the Buffet every night after three goes at the dining room. N.C.L. is the only ship that knows how to fairly treat solo travellers.

Also I must mention...if you wear hearing aids or have sensitive hearing stay away from the theatres on both ships...the sound is so blasting and distored you ears buzz. Every one I spoke with had the same complaint. The sound is for a target market of 20 to 30 year olds. The actual passengers are 50 to 80. The sound tech. is to blame because even the feature piano player Leonardo was great but when the orchestra joined in they totally drowned him out as they did in all the big feature shows...The brilliant cas were shreaking to be heard. When they sang in the main lobby they were marvellous, you could hear and understand them...

Cabin Review

Deluxe Veranda 1B

Cabin 1B

Spacious bathroom, lots of hot water and good pressure...large T.V. great bed, you don't really need a balcony on the North Atlantic crossing but it was great...the WiFi was in the room and you can now pay a flat fee for the entire cruise...that solves a lot of problems.

Loved my Stateroom. I was 8th deck forward but seldom was aware of movement.

Port Reviews

Lisbon

Little bit of shopping and lunch...better to stay in Lisbon...the new Lisbon Cruise Ship dock allows you to walk into the city center. Much better.

Vigo

Bus ride to a tiny town...off season...nice bakery...wine tasting was really a selling stop...the wine was bitter and I felt I made a mistake. Vigo was much nicer but we had no time to see much. Stay in Vigo and enjoy the town and Oysters.

Le Havre

Took shuttle into city center...modern, wide streets, very expensive, hardly any people about...a waste of time. Then boarded the bus to the shopping center we were told was at the Train Station...its NOT...it where the bus lets you off at the dock. Huge shopping center...predictible but if you want to shop there are a few shops you don't see at every city in the world...I bought some nice scarves.
