I wanted to choose a cruise to celebrate my 60th birthday. Something that would be fun and memorable for the whole family. My kids had never cruised before and I was hoping that this would be a wonderful experience and a great introduction to cruising for them. As this was our 8th cruise, and we had done the Eastern Caribbean before, it wasn't as much about the ports of call as it was about the accommodations, the food, and the activities on board, as well as the excursions. We got a Junior Suite for the kids, and got the Owner's Suite for ourselves. The Owner's Suite was very nice and was a very comfortable room to stay in, with a few exceptions. The bed was not very comfortable, and the doors on several of the cabinets were almost impossible to open. Our stateroom attendant had to give us towels to place in the doors so that they wouldn't close all of the way, thus making them able to be opened.

The dining on board was OK - but not great. We have had better food on other cruises. We did purchase two specialty dinners, and were a little disappointed in the quality. One of the most disappointing things that happened, and one that really irritated us all was that even though we had paid $39 each for the dinner at Chops Grille, and the kids had the all inclusive beverage package, the restaurant still wanted to charge for extras once you were dining. A second steak was extra; dry aged steak was extra; and lobster was extra. Then at the end of the meal when my son wanted to order an alcoholic coffee beverage and use his all inclusive beverage card, he was told that he would be charged full price for the drink.

This kind of up-charging and up-selling was rampant on the ship. We've never cruised before where the up-selling was so aggressive. Rather than feeling like a valued guest, we felt more like a commodity!
