Sail Date: Apr 2016
Cabin: Balcony

We chose this cruise for a quick getaway with family. The ship was showing her age, considering some very outdated décor and rust. The signature whale fin funnel needed some serious cleaning. Embarkation was a little slow let to get started, but proceeded fairly well. I must mention the pungent odor of B.O. and sewage that greeted us when we arrived to the hallway outside our room. The smell did occasionally rear its head, but it was more an annoyance after we sailed.

The dining room staff was absolutely outstanding. They were friendly, greeted us by name, and seemed to be having a decent time (for people who are working 12 hour days, that is). The food in the buffet was your standard mass produced fair, but was enough to soak up the booze. Speaking of which, we were impressed with the ever expanding selection of craft beer and other choices. They've added some more ciders, and a hard root beer that I routinely drink on land. The mixed drink offerings were the norm.

Another highlight in the beverage department is the Alchemy Bar. Wonderful selection of some high brow concoctions that we kept us coming back to try something new. Found a new favorite (gotta try the cucumber sunrise)! Our cruise director was one of the best we've watched. He did an outstanding job at the newly wed/not so newly wed show, which is always something we look forward to. He was hilarious, and had great energy. The production show "Vroom" was a blast. It was almost an hour long, and featured rock songs across the decades. The performers were fantastic; this was one of the best stage shows we've seen at sea.

Cabin Review

Balcony

The cabin was clean upon arrival, and seemed to be well cared for (included a classic tube TV!) Once we arrived he wanted to know if we wanted the morning or nighttime service. We told him both, as we had heard through the grapevine of family cruisers that if you choose only one, you'll not get fresh towels or very good service. He begrudgingly obliged us. That being said, he did an "Ok" job. Dirty dishes and glasses were left in the room AFTER it being cleaned. I had to wait nearly an hour for extra pillows (and at midnight when you're ready for bed, this is irritating).

Port Reviews

Nassau

Our excursion (bar hoping and beer tasting) was canceled a couple hours prior to starting. We didn't have time to choose something else, so we opted to stroll through the port. We had the usual pushy and annoying cab drivers and hair braiders. We ended at Senor Frogs for an extremely expensive drink and lunch. After watching the drunk college kids act like morons (which I consider to be a free show), we headed back to our ship. We looked through a couple shops, but didn't purchase anything. We have been to Nassau several times before, and it hasn't changed.
