Our first cruise was in 1987 and we have seen many changes in the cruising industry.

As soon as we got aboard Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas we went to Central Park for lunch. We literally just sat down and were approached to purchase a restaurant package. Pricing is $25.00-$40.00 per person per meal. Relaxing pool side, the next day, we were approached to purchase a wine decanter. If one wanted to purchase either of these, the daily newsletter and the shops on board have the information and/or items where you can make such purchases; as well as a kiosk where you can purchase your next cruise. While on vacation, I don’t want to be subjected to sales pitches.

Because our cruise was booked in January, we were told it was too late to have reservations in the main dining room so were put into My Time Dining. Fortunately, we read about it ahead of time and made our dinner reservations on line. There were people waiting to be seated from 30-60 minutes!! Most people we spoke to hated this option and preferred the two dinner options of early and late dining. We also prefer being seated at a larger table making it a great opportunity to meet people from around the world but we were not accommodated.
