We wanted to tour Paris first and then tour southern France. My sister and her husband were also interested in the itinerary, so it gave us a chance to visit with them and tour at the same time. We loved our three days in Paris and would highly recommend this add-on to others. We stayed at the Pullman Tour Eiffel hotel, which was a great location. We made several reservations ahead of time, and that helped save us a lot of time and aggravation. The river cruise down the Saone and Rhone Rivers was delightful. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The Viking Hermod was a beautiful ship with wonderful modern décor. We stayed in a French balcony cabin, which was small but extremely well designed. We would choose that accommodation again. We loved the gourmet dining and the excellent service. Unlike large cruise ships, there were no assigned seats. If you wanted a particular table type, you had to get to the dining room early in the evening. We loved the talks given by the chef and the cruise director. They were amusing and very informative. Again, if you wanted a seat while you listened to the talk, you generally had to get there early. We loved the piano music and the chance to dance in the upstairs lounge. The entertainment was low-key but very appropriate for the group. The ports and shore excursions were well-chosen and excellent. At times, it was hard to choose, e.g., Chateauneuf du Papes or Pont du Gard. Overall, we would not have changed anything on the trip. And we are already looking forward to doing another cruise with Viking.
Small but very well designed. Wonderful windows.
